Have a Back-Up Plan

Planning for success on the Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and other Cisco exams is much like taking a trip in your car. If you were driving from the East coast to the West coast, it would not be wise to just get in your car and start driving without any idea of where you were going. If you hit a bump in the road and don’t get your certification the first time you take the exam, regroup and create another plan. Study until you get to the point that on exam day, you know that you are already a CCNA or CCNP and you’re just there at the testing center to make it official.

The journey to success is often not a straight line. Just as on the car trip, there are many bumps in the road, and your certification efforts may have many ups and downs, but the overall result is success. The path to your eventual career and certification exam success may not be a direct one, but the important part is to get started and create your own road map for a successful arrival at your destination.

Plan for When Your Key Employee Leaves

Very few businesses can claim to be prepared for the loss of key employees. Quite often it is an unexpected and unplanned for event that causes quite a bit of disruption to the ‘business as usual’ attitude.

It is quite a gut wrenching experience to see an employee you have worked with over a period of time leaving your business. Even if the parting of ways is on good terms with a period of handover, you just know that there is so much information walking out the door with your former employee and there is nothing you can do about it.

And this is only just the beginning…

While laboring through a period of being understaffed and overworked you are then faced with the task of recruiting a new employee to fill the vacant position. This is followed by the inevitable probation and training period where, hopefully the new employee comes up to speed and is able to pick up where the former employee left off.

The problem is: What exactly was it that the former employee really did? They always seemed to be busy and on the rare occasion that they were absent due to illness, there were those problems that arose that were only truly resolved when they returned and took control and ‘cleaned things up’.

4) Document key information that is critical to your business and make it available to your employees.

5) Work with your employees to define what it is they do, how they do it and most importantly how it could be done better.

6) Record, optimize then implement the business systems you have identified.

7) Assign the business systems to the relevant positions and monitor their use.

By consistently following these steps for all positions in your business you will insulate yourself from some of the problems that occur when key employees leave your business.

Team Players are an Integral Part of Business

Focusing one’s attention to every minor detail is an important element in the business world. In particular, those who work in the computer programming field realize that paying attention to even the most seemingly insignificant elements can make a difference in the overall results. If the programmer does not realize there is a problem, it will ultimately lead to errors down the line. Bugs will appear in the program, and severe gliches will more than likely occur later on. Computer programming is a very labor intensive line of work, which requires numerous hours of writing, testing and debugging the script. This is why team work is a very important element in computer programming. It often helps to speed up the delivery of the program, as there just isn’t enough time for one or even two programmers to work effectively to produce a usable program.
 
One of the most important players on any team is the leader. Again, let’s use the computer programming team as an example. The team leader may be a systems analyst or senior programmer, with years of experience notched in his belt. His primary purpose is to supervise the team. He will lead brainstorming sessions, delegate assignments and resolve problems, check the accuracy of the coding, offer advice and lead in the debugging of the software. All team members report to this individual, who may even have an assistant if the team is large enough to warrant one.

 

The team will also consist of entry level programmers, who may have good qualifications but not very many years of experience yet. These entry level programmers may work on simpler assignments or he may be assigned to work as part of the group. This group may consist of other entry level programmers or more experienced professionals. The number of programmers in a team can be as few as 3 or as many as hundreds, depending on the size of the project and resources available.When there is an exceptionally large project, the team may even work in shifts.

Many of the computer programs and software that we use on a daily basis - whether it be video games to the technology that runs our phone – were produced by a team of programmers.
